PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The convoy surveyor is in charge to implement and manage :
- Carry out any and all site survey duties. Details of these duties shall be given in the various Method Statements.
- Report to the Track Survey Manager any discrepancies or variations between design data and site conditions whenever such are encountered.
- Surveyors shall hold a recognized diploma in Surveying (or acceptable equivalent) or be able to show relevant trackwork surveying experience.
- Be responsible for ensuring safety is integral to all survey works carried out by his team
- Maintain discipline of Chainmen under his charge
- Liaise daily with Construction department site Superintendents to determine minor adjustments to survey requirements and reports these to the Survey Manager
- Carry out necessary office calculations relating to his team's work as required
- Follow defined survey methodology and advise management if improvements can be made
- Be responsible for ensuring instrumentation under his carry is properly maintained and calibrated

MAIN RESPONSABILITIES
- Prepare and verify the topographical and control survey data prior to the convoy.
- Conduct pre-convoy checks on reference points, digital terrain models (DTM), and alignment files for Appitrack or Slipform equipment.
- Operate and monitor survey instruments (e.g., total stations, GNSS systems, robotic stations) during convoy activities.
- Perform real-time track alignment control, ensuring compliance with geometric tolerances and design specifications.
- Adjust and update reference lines and coordinate systems as required during operation.
- Support the construction team by providing on-the-spot survey data and reports for quality assurance.
- Ensure proper documentation of surveying activities, deviations, and corrective actions.
- Liaise with engineers, machine operators, and quality control teams to ensure coordinated operations.
- Maintain and calibrate survey equipment regularly to ensure optimal performance.
- Apply and enforce health, safety, and environmental standards throughout all surveying tasks.
Primary Control Verification:
- Verify the engineering grid provided by the Owner using geodetic (primary) control points.
- Assess the accuracy and reliability of the primary control network.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports on the status and precision of the primary control network.
- Perform verification operations twice in the first year and annually thereafter.
Secondary Control Establishment:
- Establish and maintain a secondary control network based on the verified primary control points.
- Ensure the secondary network meets the precision requirements for construction activities.
- Coordinate with construction teams to ensure proper use and maintenance of control points.
Educational Requirements
Mandatory:
- Degree or diploma in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field.
Desirable:
- Experience operating and interpreting data for Appitrack or Slipform track-laying systems is essential.
- Proficient in surveying software (e.g., Trimble Business Centre, Leica Captivate, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
Experience:
Mandatory:
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in railway or linear infrastructure projects.
Desirable:
- Experience operating and interpreting data for Appitrack or Slipform track-laying systems is essential.
- Proficient in surveying software (e.g., Trimble Business Centre, Leica Captivate, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
Competencies & Skills
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work night shifts, weekends, or under tight deadlines during convoy operations.
- Fluency in English both written and spoken.
- Valid driving license preferred.
