We are searching for the best talent for an Associate Field Director, CNS/Rare.

This position is field based to be in Quebec or Ontario, Canada.

Purpose:

The Associate Director, Field Medical, MRG leads, mentors, and develops a group of field direct reports (e.g. MSLs, etc.). These direct reports provide scientific and research support to health care professionals and internal business partners related to current and future Johnson and Johnson products. The Associate Director, Field Medical develops the field medical plan and ensures the field team is accountable for excellence in execution of this plan, while providing field insights to inform broader therapeutic area strategy. The Associate Director, Field Medical collaborates with cross-functional partners and ensures optimal collaboration by their team members. They act as the voice of field medical to head office teams and identify/lead broader organizational initiatives as appropriate.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and overseeing field medical plan; ensures execution of medical plan
  • Ensuring excellence in execution in leading and developing field based MSL teams in support of the Medical Plan while creating a culture of innovation and collaboration
  • Recruiting and on-boarding, performance management and career development for a qualified and diverse team of MSLs
  • Facilitating scientific and skill training, as well as mentoring and coaching to support professional development
  • Ensuring collaborative and compliant alignment of MSL activities with non-medical field facing roles and according to field medical plan and company directives.
  • Ensuring compliance with all local regulatory requirements and Global Policies and Guidelines
  • Overseeing allocated field medical budget
  • Formulating of strategies to develop skills and competencies needed in MSLs, focusing on career plans and internal growth within the organization
  • Providing an optimal working environment by promoting/functioning according to the Credo value, communication of a clear direction, active listening, respecting diversity, encouraging collaborative partnership, empowering direct reports, follow up on commitments, promoting innovation, and rewarding high performance.
  • Driving evolution of MSL role to exceed industry standards; identifies and implements fundamental standards and best practices for the role; implementation of policies for MSLs, seeking to standardize activities and processes to minimize operational, strategic and corporate responsibility risks
  • Continuous evaluation of the market, to understand the current trends of the external MSLs and in this way, provide guidance, ensuring that J&J innovates continuously
  • Representing Canada on any regional/global initiatives aimed at optimizing MSL effectiveness
  • Collaborating with cross-functional head office partners contributing the field medical voice as needed
  • Communicating field insights, medical education needs and actionable items to leadership and internal partners, as appropriate
  • Communicating MSL team achievement updates to appropriate internal partners and levels of management
  • Identification and/or leadership of broader organizational/cross-functional strategic initiatives as defined by senior management

Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of a university degree in science, Pharmacy, or health-related field with significant therapeutic-area experience
  • PhD and/or MD strongly is preferred

Requirements:

  • A minimum 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with at least the majority in medical affairs, is required.
  • Ability to build and develop effective people and teams.
  • Strong knowledge of GCP, IMC code and Healthcare Compliance policies and procedures. Familiarity with working in an environment guided by SOPs.
  • Strategic thinking and positive track record of flawless execution.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate information to KOLs, as well as non-experts.
  • Ability to put data into perspective and communicate it concisely, as required.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, strong project management skills and ability to impact decision making with relevant partners.
  • Prioritization skills and big picture orientation.
  • Scientific acumen.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, multitask and follow through in a field-based role.
  • Experience developing and/or executing product strategy.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including an ability to effectively observe, assess and mentor others on communicating complex technical, scientific or medical information to broad audience types.
  • Solid knowledge of local regulatory requirements.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • experience as an MSL and/or Medical Director preferred.
  • Additional experience in Medical education or info/comms is an asset.
  • experience/knowledge in CNS (bipolar, schizophrenia, major depressive disorder), and/or Rare Disease (pulmonary hypertension, myasthenia gravis) is an asset.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
  • Field-based people management experience is preferred; at least 2 years people management experience preferred, except in cases of exceptional alternative experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs; previous experience with iConnect/Veeva or another Customer Relationship Management tool would be an asset.
