Description

About Us

Charm’s Scam Defense AI fights the epidemic of human-centric fraud that costs hundreds of billions annually and disrupts millions of lives. Our mission is “to break the scam spell” by protecting people from scammers who manipulate human psychology rather than just exploit technical vulnerabilities. When attackers increasingly use AI to scale their social engineering attacks, Charm responds with cutting-edge AI defense systems.

Using proprietary behavioral science models that combine fraud expertise with psychology and behavioral analysis, Charm has developed a comprehensive portfolio of AI-powered scam defense solutions for financial institutions. Our Prevention Agent proactively analyzes risk signals and intervenes in real-time, our Copilot empowers fraud analysts with conversation analysis and guided actions, and our Customer-Facing Agent provides self-serve protection with emotional support and professional escalation pathways.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Cyber Psychologist or Behavioral Scientist to bridge the gap between human behavior and artificial intelligence. In this role, you will lead the scientific exploration of fraud and social engineering dynamics analyzing the cognitive, social, and organizational structures of both attackers and victims. You will translate deep academic and real-world insights into structured taxonomies that our AI agents will use to interpret, classify, and neutralize threats.

Key Responsibilities

1. Deep-Dive Behavioral Research (The “Why”)

  • Conduct comprehensive knowledge gathering regarding the psychological, organizational, cognitive, social, and anthropological aspects of fraud, scam and social engineering.
  • Analyze the Micro-level: Individual motivations, cognitive biases of victims, and the psychopathy/social engineering tactics of attackers.
  • Analyze the Macro-level: How criminal organizations operate, network dynamics, groupthink in fraud and cybercrime rings, and organizational vulnerabilities in target companies.
  • Synthesize data from academic research papers, real-world case studies, and dark web intelligence to create a living library of fraud behavior.

2. Framework & Taxonomy Development (The “What”)

  • Translate abstract behavioral concepts into machine-readable logic. Build and refine comprehensive frameworks and taxonomies that allow our agents to “tag” and understand the characteristics of an event.
  • Develop distinct profiling models for the Attacker and the Victim.
  • Work closely with Data Scientists/AI researchers to map these taxonomies to actual data features, ensuring the AI can recognize these psychological patterns in real-time.

3. Intervention & Resolution Design (The “How”)

  • Design “Online Intervention” protocols: Determine the most effective psychological strategies for our agents to de-escalate a situation or stop a fraud in progress.
  • Develop “Nudging” strategies and resolution paths that the agentic workforce can execute to protect the user without causing friction.
  • Create scripts and interaction flows based on persuasion psychology to counter social engineering attacks.

4. AI Ethics & Behavioral Simulation

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to reduce bias in how our agents profile individuals.
  • Assist in “Red Teaming” scenarios by simulating sophisticated human adversaries to test the agents’ resilience against psychological manipulation.

Requirements:

What We Are Looking For

  • Advanced Degree (MA/MSc or PhD) is a must. Fields of study: Cyber Psychology, Behavioral Economics, Organizational Psychology, Criminology, or Cognitive Science.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, with a strong preference for backgrounds in FinTech, Financial Institutions, Cyber Security/Intelligence or Fraud Prevention vendors.
  • Deep understanding of the Fraud and Cybercrime Landscape (Social Engineering, BEC, Phishing psychology, Insider Threats).
  • Proven experience working in High-Tech environments. You must be comfortable bridging the gap between social science and engineering.
  • Startup DNA: Experience working in agile, fast-paced startup environments. You are proactive, adaptable, and comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills.

Skills:

  • Ability to structure unstructured data (turning research into frameworks).
  • Strong analytical writing and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Data Science and AI concepts (you don’t need to code, but you need to speak the language of developers) is a huge plus.
