Description
We are looking for a Sustainability Specialist that will supports ZIM’s ESG disclosure and performance goals by ensuring the collection, validation, and consolidation of accurate and consistent quantitative and qualitative data from across the organization. The role translates complex requirements from ESG frameworks, ratings, and regulations into credible, actionable reporting. It demands strong analytical skills and a proactive, self-driven approach to learning, enabling the Analyst to research, master, and apply evolving methodologies and best practices. The Analyst ensures that disclosures align with ZIM’s strategic priorities, regulatory obligations, and stakeholder expectations, reinforcing the company’s credibility and performance in ESG ratings and compliance.
Major areas of responsibility
ESG Data Collection, Validation & Consolidation
- Collect, validate, and consolidate ESG data from all relevant functions for annual, periodic, and ad-hoc reports.
- Process constant improvement- prepare and improve data reporting templates and records and coordinate timely data submissions.
- Ensure alignment with ESG reporting frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, CSRD, etc.).
- Maintain a database of benchmark reporting for ongoing tracking and reference
ESG Submissions to Rating Initiatives
- Prepare and submit ESG responses and data packages to global rating initiatives (e.g., EcoVadis, CDP, Maala, Sustainalytics) in line with defined timelines and specific methodology.
- Maintain detailed submission records, feedback, and scores for ongoing improvement.
- Monitor post-submission feedback and recommend actions to close gaps and improve scores in future cycles.
ESG regulations and standards monitoring
- Stay current with global ESG regulations, directives, and disclosure requirements.
- Analyze the impact of new or updated regulations on ZIM’s ESG reporting and operations.
- Prepare summaries, simulations, and guidance materials to help internal stakeholders understand implications.
- Support alignment of internal processes with emerging compliance obligations.
Assurance & Audit Support
- Prepare audit-ready ESG data sets for internal and external assurance processes.
- Support SOX-related ESG controls by performing required validations and documentation.
- Respond to auditor and assurance provider queries with accurate, well-supported information.
- Maintain organized records of data sources, validations, and approvals for traceability and credibility.
Support ESG Projects
- Provide analytical and operational support to ESG programs and initiatives feeding into reporting.
Customer and Investor ESG Inquiries
- Coordinate and complete customer ESG questionnaires and investor information requests, ensuring accuracy and transparency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Statistics- - must, Sustainability, Environmental Studies- an advantage
- 2 years of experience as an analyst, with a track record of working with both qualitative and quantitative datasets, including data gathering, interpretation, and integration into reports or insights
- Professional training or certifications in ESG, sustainability reporting, or related fields – advantage
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and extract actionable insights.
- Creativity and broad conceptual thinking combined with the ability to deep-dive into specific technical issues.
- Excellent organizational and process management skills, with the ability to work under tight deadlines and effectively prioritize multiple tasks.
- High attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively across different functions
- Self-driven learner with curiosity and passion for sustainability and ESG topics.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with evolving requirements
- Strong proficiency in English – both written and spoken – with the ability to draft, review, and present high-quality content for internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) – required; experience with ESG reporting tools or data visualization platforms – advantage
